Children's Campus Kids Make Muddy Buddies

The Children's Campus is a valuable tool for experiential learning in the Early Childhood Education program and as well as many other majors at St. Ambrose.

"The Children's Campus serves as the lab school for the university.," said Program Director Debra Brownson. "Students have the opportunity to learn in the adult classroom and then apply what they've learned in a real world situation. We believe the opportunity to learn, apply, evaluate and reflect add a depth to university students overall education.

"We are open to all majors including early childhood education, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical therapy, to name a few."

The licensed Iowa facility also provides a comprehensive early childhood program for children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6-years-old, with or without disabilities, as well as educational experiences and resources for families.

And, as often as not, it provides great fun for children, teachers and future professionals alike.

On Thursday, June 29, the Children's Campus joined in International Mud Day, a worldwide event celebrated the second-to-last day of June each year since it was founded in 2009.  It is a day to unite children and adults in an understanding of one the things we all have in common - the good earth.

"We can come together, literally across the world, doing the same thing at the same time - playing in mud," Brownson said in this article in The Daily Dispatch. "And it is a phenomenal sensory experience for young children."
