Systems Engineer, Sierra Nevada Corporation
Building a spacecraft
Got his start at Lockheed Martin
"Without my educational experiences at SAU, I would not have had the launching pad to get me to where I am today."
Dream Chaser is the name of the spacecraft Jeff Stebel '01 is helping to develop as a Systems Engineer for the Sierra Nevada Corporation, but it could describe his post-SAU career as well.
The Dream Chaser project is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program in support of the International Space Station. Stebel previously worked for Lockheed Martin on NASA's Orion Constellation, a project that sought to build a craft capable of landing on Mars, the Moon and an asteroid.
"I realize that without my educational experiences at SAU, I would not have had the launching pad to get me to where I am today, pardon the pun. The first big lessons SAU provided me was the ability to problem solve and work as a team. To me, that's what being an engineer boils down to."
