In what semester can I enter the SAU Master of Accounting program?
A student may enter the Program in any semester, fall, spring, or summer.

Is there a deadline for applying for the SAU Master of Accounting program?
No, there is no specific deadline by date. However, you should apply early enough so that SAU receives all your application materials, including official transcripts and GMAT score, before the semester starts.

Must I take the GMAT test before taking MACC courses?
As of March 10, 2010, and starting with the summer 2010 semester, students who have an overall GPA of 3.5 and a 3.5 GPA in accounting classes are not required to take the GMAT test. Applicants who are non-accounting majors must take all prerequisites before applying the above policy. If you  do not meet the above 3.5 GPA policy, you can register for up to two graduate courses in one semester before taking the GMAT, but you will not be allowed to register for a second semester until you have received an acceptable score on the GMAT.

Are there prerequisites for the SAU MACC program?
Yes, but a student with an undergraduate accounting degree from an accredited four-year college will meet all the prerequisites for the Program. Students without an undergraduate accounting degree must meet the following prerequisites: 24 hours of accounting; 6 hours of economics; 3 hours of business law; 3 hours of business statistics; 3 hours of a business elective; 3 hours of college math at the level of college algebra or higher.

Must I complete all the prerequisites before taking graduate courses?
No. You can take an MACC course as soon as you have completed the prerequisites for an individual MACC course. For example, you can register for MAC 601 as soon as you have completed Intermediate Accounting l and ll. Furthermore, you can immediately start taking MBA electives. (You must complete minimum of 9 hours to a maximum of 15 hours of MBA electives at the level of 600 or above.

How many credit hours are required to complete the MACC degree?
30 credit hours. The 30 hours do not include any prerequisites.

Are there any discounts, assistantships, or scholarships available?
Yes.  

Discounts
Graduates from the SAU accounting program who start the program within 12 months of receiving their undergraduate degree will receive a 30 percent discount on all graduate courses up to 33 credit hours or the completion of 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Graduates from other accounting programs who start the program within 12 months of receiving their undergraduate degree will receive a 20 percent discount on all graduate courses up to 33 credit hours or the completion of 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Assistantships
There is one MACC graduate assistantship and many College of Business graduate assistantships.

Scholarships
The Accounting Department awards the George J. Till Accounting Scholarship to qualified undergraduate and master of accounting students. Students must apply for this scholarship, and it is awarded in late spring.

In what format is the Program offered?
The Program is offered in a part-time, full-time, and accelerated format.

  • Part-Time Format: Students may begin in the summer, fall, or spring semesters, and complete the program on their own time table. Classes may be taken in the day or evening.
  • Full-Time Format: Students may begin in the summer, fall, or spring semester, and complete the program in one year. Classes may be taken in the day or evening.
  • Accelerated Format: Students may begin in the summer interim as full-time students and complete the program by December. Or students may start in January and complete the program in the summer. Classes may be taken in the day or evening.
