The image, "Iowa Countryside" (to the right) was selected as our curricular image. This representation specifically reflects our geographic setting (rural Iowa). The image conveys a general understanding of life as a journey impacted by the contextual nature of living. The journey of our curriculum is fueled by the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others through evidence based intervention work that optimizes the occupational participation of others.
We adopted this image to represent our program which is alive with learning opportunities. Students explore the scenery around them through a variety of field experiences, independent study, or special topics courses. As they travel through the curriculum, the scenery and their understanding of it will change. They will be able to stop and reflect on their past experiences, seeing things that they missed when they initially explored these areas.
Also, the seasons will change, requiring students to adapt and adjust to increasing demands and changing practice environments. The path is ongoing, denoting the need for continued growth and development beyond our curriculum as students move from novice occupational therapists to experts in their professional lives.
