2012-13 Mock Trial Team
St. Ambrose University began its mock trial program in 2003. The mock trial program is part of the pre-law program, but being a pre-law student is not a requirement to join, nor is having previous mock trial experience. Interested members must have a willingness to work hard, learn, and enjoy the competition.
The St. Ambrose Mock Trial team took on its hardest competition of the year at the University of Illinois Invitational Tournament on January 19 and 20, scoring a major upset with a win over a University of Chicago team.
Overall the SAU team finished 4-4 in a tournament where the competition included Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Minnesota. Besides taking on both University of Chicago teams, SAU took on Michigan State and St. Francis University. The team took home two individual trophies: Tyler Waugh took top honors as the tournament's beset witness, and Caleb Copley took home the third place award for best attorney.
The SAU Mock Trial Team, through its first three tournaments, has a .500 record with individual awards for best attorney and best witness at all three tournaments.
Next week the team travels to Dubuque to compete at the Loras National Invitational Tournament.
The Mock Trial Team came back from the Elgin Community College Tournament (November 10 & 11) finishing 9th among the 22 teams attending the tournament with a 4-3-1 record.
Caleb Copley, one of our new members, took home awards for best attorney and best witness, a first in our program's history.
