We deliver majors and minors in theatre and theatre education with offerings that include such courses as: Basic and Advanced Acting, Musical Theatre, Directing, Stagecraft, Set and Lighting Design, Movement for Actors, Costume Design, Theatre History, Survey of Theatre, Theatre in London, and Dramatic Literature.
Our season typically consists of four main-stage productions (2 straight shows, a musical, and a children's show) and up to six additional student-directed plays in our Studio Theatre.
St. Ambrose is fortunate to have a modern, 600-seat proscenium stage that can be expanded to seat up to 1,200. The stage also is the convenient setting for the Performing Arts Series, an annual program for professional touring shows whose performances are availed to the Ambrose community.
We also have a very intimate 50-seat studio theatre that is flexible in its configuration and affords students a variety of directing, acting, and design opportunities.
SAU students are encouraged to do internships during their time in undergraduate study. Theatres where students have previously completed internships are: The Goodman, The Guthrie, Festival Theatre, Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse, QC Workshop, Davenport Junior Theatre, Children's Theatre Company, and The Curtainbox
