Bookmark and ShareHow do I submit an IRB proposal?

Please follow these procedures to submit your research proposal for review and approval:

  1. Researchers complete the IRB proposal form  and provide one paper copy of the entire proposal; NIH training certificate; agency approval(s); informed consent form (letter or form) to Debbie Dobbyn, Ambrose Hall 231; and one copy of all documents (AS ONE FILE) electronically to Carol DeVolder two weeks before the next scheduled IRB meeting.
  2. Once Dr. DeVolder receives the electronic submission, confirmation of receipt will be sent electronically.
  3. When the IRB meets for the next scheduled meeting, the submitted project will be reviewed. IRB does this electronically via Blackboard (thus the need for no more than one paper copy on file with Debbie Dobbyn to comply with federal guidelines (OPHR). Comments will be made on the submitted document via track changes. If the project receives approval, electronic approval  will be provided after the IRB meeting to the researchers from the IRB chair. If the project is approved with changes, the required changes will be sent to student/faculty researchers/sponsors. Once changes are made, please resubmit changed document to Carol DeVolder and electronic approval will be provided. Please leave track changes on, so that the IRB can be assured all identified changes have been made.
  4. If a project is denied, extensive written rationale for denial will be provided and the IRB will encourage resubmission as appropriate.

A complete application will include the following:

Remember:  The entire document must be submitted as one hard copy and as one electronic copy in .doc format.
