Due Date for CILE II Grants: Monday, March 20, 2017

CILE I Grants for 2017-2018 will be discussed at bi-weekly CILE meetings after they are submitted and received. There is no deadline for the CILE I Grant. 


The Council for an Integrative Learning Environment (CILE) invites proposals to fund integrative learning activities. Grant funds are competitive and intended to be used to develop ways to enhance the integrative experiences and outcomes of your course, program, or professional development that connects your discipline to another field, course, or co-curricular area.

Funds can be used to support course or program materials, class or organization projects and field experiences, and programming that explicitly emphasizes integrative learning (see definition below). CILE Grants cannot be used for instructor stipends.

Upon completion of the integrative learning activity, the grantee(s) will submit a project summary to the CILE in order to be reimbursed. This project summary may include a poster presentation or other meeting to share results of integrative learning grant projects. If a grant is awarded, instructions for the project summary and reimbursement process will be included in the award letter.


CILE I (up to $500)

Projects that are small in scope and potential impact on students and the community but still demonstrate integrative learning.

CILE II ($500-$2,000)

Projects that are larger in scope, that have the potential to significantly impact students and the community, and that demonstrate integrative learning. CILE II recipients must have a willingness to share project findings with the broader campus community.

Definition of Integrative Learning

Integrative learning takes place in the dynamic intersections across disciplines, between curricular and co-curricular activities, and between campus and community life, in order to encourage students to recognize and reflect on connections among personal values, classroom learning, and experiential engagement.

From forging connections among ideas and experiences to applying knowledge to new, complex situations, integrative learning prepares students to meet the challenges of personal, professional, and civic life.
