The next step in preparing to arrive is deciding on your housing!  St. Ambrose is known for having some of the best on-campus accommodation in our region.

For upperclassmen (those in their third or fourth year or in graduate studies), much of our housing is "suite-style," with shared kitchens and living areas, or in houses adjacent to campus. First and second year students are provided shared rooms, many of which have adjacent bathrooms and shared lounge areas on each floor.

For all students, living on campus is the best way to have a real "American" university experience, with lots of opportunities to become part of the St. Ambrose community. Upperclassmen and graduate students may also choose to live off campus. Our Residence Life Office can provide you with information on rental opportunities in the area.

Housing Contract

If you will be living on campus, then you need to download and complete the Housing Contract as soon as possible after your acceptance to St. Ambrose. This document should be printed, completed by hand, and scanned back to International Student Services.

On this contract, please be sure to select both your housing preference and your meal plan preference.  When completing this form, remember these points:

  • Return it to International Student Services as soon as possible after your acceptance.
  • First and second year students must choose "traditional" housing.
  • Third and fourth year students and graduate students may choose "traditional" or "preferred" housing.
  • Students living in traditional housing must choose a meal plan with at least 10 meals per week.

Deadlines for returning the Housing Contract

On-campus housing is guaranteed for new international students until the housing contract deadlines:

  • June 1 for August admission
  • December 1 for January admission

After the deadline, housing is offered based on availability. Please note that housing is often very full in the Fall semester. If you plan to start in the fall (August), please return the housing contract to International Student Services as soon as possible.

Summer Housing

International students are allowed to remain on campus for the summer break, at no cost, if they do not intend to travel home. Please contact Residence Life regarding housing and roommates during the summer.

Family Housing

St. Ambrose does not provide family housing, but there are numerous housing options close to campus. Please contact Resdence Life for more information on your options for living off campus.
