How to Get Involved

Students at Urban Plunge, an annual Fall semester service activity

Faculty and staff are a vital part of service at SAU. Faculty service is a part of the advancement process and staff are recognized annually for serving above and beyond their normal job responsibilities. More important, service and service learning provide our students opportunities for experiential learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum.

Serving at St. Ambrose University has many benefits that can positively shape the student experience in college. Service-Learning offers students the opportunity to link academic concepts with applicable community service that develops critical thinking to prepare students to solve community and global issues.

Serving can also be a tool for exploring new ideas and concepts, meeting new people, and a way to gain professional skills.

Students get involved in a number of ways:

Urban Plunge
First Year and Transfer students plunge into SAU's tradition of service by volunteering at various local organizations during Welcome Week. Student groups are led by New Student Seminar Instructors, Peer Assistants, and other Faculty and Staff to volunteer in their new community while getting a chance to meet other new students.

Bee the Difference Day
This is an annual fall day of service for those who live in the SAU community. Sign-up is available as an individual, or as a team of 6 of your friends to help out the community in the spirit of the Diocesan heritage of St. Ambrose University. Contact Kaitlin Depuydt for more information.

Service Saturdays
Are you interested in service opportunities in the local community that fit with your schedule? Service Saturdays present local service opportunities to Ambrosians. Volunteers can sign up for one or all Service Saturdays in the Lower Chapel or by emailing Campus Ministry.

Spring Break Service Trips
There are a variety of service options for students over Spring Break, including service trips sponsored by organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Campus Ministry. Be sure to contact SAU's Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter to learn about their Spring Break options. Campus Ministry also sponsors trips during Spring Break. Be sure to visit here to learn more about them.
