Engineering and Physics S-STEM Scholarship Program

St. Ambrose is awarding S-STEM scholarships worth up to $10,000 per year per student toward tuition for incoming first-year, transfer and current SAU students beginning Fall 2012.

These need-based scholarships will be awarded to academically promising students pursuing a degree in industrial engineering or mechanical engineering. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of an underrepresented race, gender or group that is in some way underserved. Additional preference will be given to students transferring from community colleges with dual-admission to SAU.

The scholarships are a result of a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant and are renewable each year as long as the recipient continues to meet the qualifying criteria. The S-STEM scholarship program will continue until the spring semester of 2017, and then will be subject to renewal by the National Science Foundation.

Award Criteria
For an incoming first-year student to receive a scholarship, the student must:

• Be enrolled as a full-time student at SAU
• Demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Have a minimum cumulative ACT of 24
• Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.25
• Have a declared major in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering

For a current SAU or transfer student to receive a scholarship, the student must:

• Be enrolled as a full-time student at SAU
• Demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Have a minimum cumulative SAU or previous college GPA of 3.0
• Have a declared major in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or physics

Procedure for Applying
To be considered, a student must submit the following application materials:

• A completed SAU S-STEM Scholarship application form (pdf)
• A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form
• A short essay (500 words or less) discussing the student's personal, academic and professional goals, motivation for study and previous experience (paid or volunteer)
• An official high school transcript (incoming first-year students only)
• ACT scores (incoming first-year students only) 
• An official college transcript from previous college (transfer students only)
• An official SAU transcript (current SAU students only) - Current SAU students who have not yet completed their first semester should include SAU midterm grades.

The SAU S-STEM Scholarship selection committee will review all completed applications and select as recipients those students best meeting the award criteria. All scholarship recipients will be sent a personal letter of notification.
