For students entering 7th or 8th grade
For the sixth year, this unique collaboration between St. Ambrose University, local health care facilities and fitness agencies in the Quad Cities offers an exciting opportunity for middle school students to explore careers in health care.
During this day camp participants are introduced to a variety of health professions. Students will experience firsthand the challenges, opportunities and rewards of health professions through hands-on learning sessions provided by faculty and practicing clinicians.
Campers will be supervised by faculty and students currently enrolled in the health science-educational programs. Job shadow opportunities in different health care professions, disability awareness, and diversity training also will be part of the camp experience.
This program is underwritten in part by the annual St. Ambrose University Allied Health Career Fair, the Rock Island Foundation, and Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Stoffel.
Students will attend activities on the campus of St. Ambrose University and visit area health care agencies and clinics.
The camp is open to any student entering the 7th or 8th grade during Fall 2013. On-site supervision, t-shirt, team bag, daily snack and lunch, transportation to and from job shadow experience, and program costs are included in the program fee.
Cost of the program is $200 until May 15, 2013. After May 15th, the cost is $225.
A limited number of scholarships are available at the discounted rate of $35 for students who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
Selection is based upon the student's application. Enrollment is limited to 30. Download the application (pdf) or register online.
