Dr. David O'Connell, dean of the College of Business and a member of the St. Ambrose University faculty since 1998, will give the 2013 Winter Commencement address on Saturday, Dec. 14.
O'Connell has been the dean of the College of Business since 2011. He previously was the director of the Doctor of Business Administration program from 2003 through 2006.
As a professor of managerial studies. O'Connell has taught courses in organizational behavior, organizational theory, teams, leadership, organizational culture, negotiation and research methods in the College of Business graduate programs. He has taught undergraduate courses in human resources, leadership and organizational behavior. He was honored in 2010 as the Graduate Faculty Member of the Year by the Graduate Student Government Association.
O'Connell has received numerous honors in the field of academic business research and has published more than a dozen papers on the topics of management and leadership in business. He is a member of the editorial board of the Groups and Organization Management Journal and active as a researcher, consultant and presenter for a number of businesses, non-profit civic groups and government organizations.
O'Connell has served St. Ambrose University as chair of the doctoral faculty council, as well as on numerous committees and work groups. He was a member of the Vision 2020 task force.
O'Connell earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree from the Boston University Graduate School of Management, and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Southern Connecticut State University.
He and his wife, Gwen, have two children.
