Completing a Direct Loan Application

Bookmark and Share

As a first-time borrower you will be required to complete a Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN). The MPN will be used for all Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Loans that you may borrow. This means you will not have to fill out a new MPN each academic year.

  • When completing your MPN, you will be asked for your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID and password. This is the same data you used to electronically sign your FAFSA. If you need help requesting/remembering your FSA ID and Password click here.
  • Once you have completed the MPN, proceed to Loan Entrance Counseling if you have not already done so. Loan Entrance Counseling is a federal requirement and must be completed before your loan funds will be released to your student account.

If you have previously borrowed a Federal Direct Loan and completed an MPN at another institution, you do not have to complete a new MPN.
