St. Ambrose University does not require proof of health insurance for domestic students. All international students will continue to be required to demonstrate proof of current health insurance coverage each semester.

By law, most students will be covered until age 26 under their parents' health insurance plans. If you are not currently covered by an insurance plan, or you feel you are underinsured, you may choose to enroll in an insurance plan of your choice. SAU partners with Student Assurance Services, Inc., (see below). To learn about the Health Insurance Marketplace, visit or call 800-318-2596. Please note that certain academic programs have coverage requirements to participate in off-site learning experiences in schools, clinics, and hospitals. Also, student-athletes are required to demonstrate proof of insurance to meet participation guidelines set forth by the athletics department. The Student Assurance Services, Inc., insurance policy noted above will NOT cover student-athletes. Student-athletes are encouraged to seek a policy from another source or consult with SAU athletic trainers.

It is our desire to keep the cost of education affordable while maintaining a safe and healthy environment in which to learn and grow. Please contact the Dean of Students office if you have questions or concerns at (563) 333-6258.

Specific questions regarding the details of the coverage should be directed to Student Assurance Services at (800) 328-2739.
