What Is Honors II?

Honors II is for junior and senior students who want to complete an independent project in a specific field. It is open to all juniors and seniors meeting the admissions criteria; students do not have to complete Honors I in order to complete Honors II.

Admission Quick Facts

Honors II is open to all junior and senior students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (for students continuing Honors I as well as new applicants to Honors II). Interested students will be required to submit an online application and identify a supervising faculty member. Faculty members will be asked to complete an online faculty form and submit an online letter of recommendation.

Application deadlines are October 15th for spring semester and March 15th for fall semester.  *Application should be submitted the semester before you plan to begin Honors II. In certain circumstances, an application may be considered past these deadlines.

Why Should I Complete Honors II?

Applying for graduate school or interviewing for your first career position is stressful, and it can be overwhelming to find creative ways to stand out among a stack of resumes. Honors II can help by providing you with the opportunity to build a bridge between your academic study and work in the field.

During Honors II, you will work closely with a faculty member who will help guide you through the construction your project. Along the way, you will encounter complexities inherent to non-structured academic tasks and learn to navigate them by setting your own schedule, taking initiative, and discovering resources within yourself. These experiences will help prime you for graduate work and make you more marketable for future career opportunities.

Along with the Honors II recognition on your transcript, completion of the Honors Program will provide you with an enriched undergraduate experience and help prepare you for the professional world.

During Honors II, you will complete the following courses:

  • Honors 301 (3 credit hours) *pre-requisite for Honors 401
  • Honors 401 (2-4 credit hours)
