Honors II Application and Steps

NOTE: You do not have to complete Honors I in order to complete Honors II.

Application deadlines are October 15th for spring semester and March 15th for fall semester. *Application should be submitted the semester before you plan to begin Honors II. In certain circumstances, an application may be considered past these deadlines.

> Attain a recommended cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (for students continuing from Honors I as well as new applicants for Honors II)

> Identify a St. Ambrose University faculty member who agrees to supervise your Honors Cumulative Experience (Honors 401). Meet with this faculty member and discuss ideas for your Honors Cumulative Experience. This will be your primary advisor for Honors 401.

> Prepare your essay for the student application and share this with your primary advisor.
Please attach a statement (2-4 pages) of intent addressing the following:

  •  A clear description of the work that you intend to produce
  • Your motivations behind completing Honors II
  • A clear description of how you are qualified to carry out an independent scholarly project
  • The ways in which Honors II will help you achieve your goals in your major and in your career

> Complete the online student application

> Have your primary advisor complete the online faculty recommendation form

> For most Honors Culminating Experiences, one primary advisor is necessary. Though not required, you may identify a second advisor who would be willing to consult on the project as necessary. If the project is interdisciplinary, establish one main advisor and a secondary advisor, each representing a discipline in your Honors Culminating Experience. If you have a secondary advisor, ask him/her to complete a second online faculty recommendation form. If you do not have a secondary advisor, ask a second faculty member to submit a letter of recommendation.
