Benefits of participating as a Bee Family Host:

  • Introduce your family to and learn about another culture.
  • Assist Ambrose in welcoming and supporting diversity.
  • Give back to the campus community.

Expectations from Bee Family:

  • Complete Bee Family application.
  • Make initial commitment of one academic year.
  • Review the Bee Family web site to orient you to the program and resources.
  • Meet with your student a minimum of 3 times each semester.
  • Respond to phone calls and invitations from your student.
  • Assist with transportation to and from the Moline airport.
  • Attempt to address cultural differences without value judgments (there are differences; neither good nor bad).
  • Do not hire the student for babysitting, pet or house sitting. This is not allowed by federal law.
  • Communicate any concerns and suggestions with International Student Services.

Activity Suggestions:

  • Invite student for home cooked meals
  • Outing to regional historical sites, sporting events, Mississippi Valley Fair,
    Mall of America, Bix, drive-in movie, corn maze
  • Attend Ambrose events together
  • Family gatherings and celebrations, weddings, picnics
  • Cultural and holiday observances (Thanksgiving, July 4th)
