Aaron Hook, SAU Theatre alum of 2006, has returned to the SAU Theatre Department as Assistant Technical Coordinator. The job includes being the frontman for coordinating all of the outside events that appear on the Galvin Mainstage by making sure all technical aspects work smoothly for our guest performers. The job also includes doing "whatever else we think is a good idea," says Professor Kris Eitrheim.
After graduating from St. Ambrose, Hook took a year to save money and "explore the world," travelling to London and New York with his wife, Amanda Anderson Hook, who is also a 2006 graduate of SAU. Although a life in the theatre often involves a lot of travel, Hook has never been the nomadic type. "It's nice to have a place to call home," Hook says of his job at SAU, "and the people are great."
Hook found it extremely easy to step back into the program at SAU. "It feels like I never left," he says. The transition from being a student to being a staff member seemed like a challenging one for Hook at first. "I had to realize that I know what I'm doing now," says Hook. He spoke highly of the program here at SAU, saying that "the later years of the theatre program really prepared me to take on a leadership role."
As far as his time now at SAU, Hook hopes to learn as much as possible. "The job has a wide range of responsibilities," he says. "I work with all parts of the theatre as well as the music department." He also hopes to advance the program as much as he can and make a lasting impression.
