9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday–Friday
Catich Gallery, Galvin Fine Arts Center
Featured Artist: Melissa Jay Craig, Chicago
How do we use our senses? How do we use and interpret language(s)? Craig's artwork reflects on these themes and invites the viewer to meditate on both the verbal and nonverbal aspects of communication. Her selection of handmade paper as a primary medium is intentional and for a variety of reasons: its minimal environmental impact; versatility; unperceived strength; and its cyclical reference–the harvested plant fibers become paper which is used in a sculpture, installation, and/or artists' book to comment on nature.
Craig will provide a slide presentation on her artistic process, specifically how she makes paper and paper sculptures from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26 in Galvin 141.
A lecture by Craig focusing on the themes in her body of work, showcasing a variety of artists books she has created over the past several years will be held from 4-4:45 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27 in Galvin 141.
Please join us for a special reception with Craig on Friday, Jan. 27, from 5–7 p.m. in the Catich Gallery.
