"Race Matters" is Dr. Cornel West's examination of race in America in the aftermath of riots that followed the 1992 acquittals of police officers accused of assaulting Rodney King. One of 19 books West authored, it remains among the seminal works on race relations.
West graduated magna cum laude in three years from Harvard University and earned master's and doctoral degrees in philosophy from Princeton. He is a professor of philosophy and Christian practice at Union Theological Seminary and previously taught at Princeton, Yale, Harvard and the University of Paris.
West is a popular commentator on CNN and C-Span and appears regularly on "The Bill Maher Show" and "The Colbert Report." He is a co-host of the radio program "Smiley and West," with his close friend Tavis Smiley. St. Ambrose radio station KALA airs "Smiley And West" at 88.5 FM every Monday from 9-10 a.m. KALA is the only radio station in the state of Iowa that carries the show.
