Julie Chen, founder of Flying Fish Press and associate professor in the book art program at Mills College in Oakland, Calif., creates works using unconventional book structures that combine letterpress printing and hand bookbinding. Her work often responds to the idea of giving order to personal experience through the use of mapping, charting and numbering--organizational systems familiar to readers everywhere.
