Community Health Care, Inc., and the Good Samaritan Free Clinic will receive jointly, the 2010 Rev. William Dawson Social Justice award from the St. Ambrose University School of Social Work. Both organizations will be honored at the annual Social Justice Conference Thursday, May 13.
Inaugurated in 1999, the award honors those individuals and social service agencies from the greater Quad Cities area that have demonstrated a commitment to social and economic justice, and the promotion and advancement of human rights.
Community Health Care, Inc., with clinics in Davenport, Iowa, and Moline and Rock Island, Ill., offers medical and dental services for persons who are unable to access primary health care elsewhere in the community. Serving more than 24,000 patients each year, CHC offers preventive, acute and chronic care, as well as laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, nutrition and health education services.
The Good Samaritan Free Clinic, located in Moline, Ill., offers free primary medical care, including limited lab and x-ray, to patients age 16 to 64 who are working but have no medical insurance. Patients are seen by volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
