When the steamroller that is SAU Theatre starts rolling, you just can't stop it.
The 2011 Kennedy Center American Theatre College Festival was no different. As in past years, SAU students didn't leave empty-handed. Below is a rundown of what they did and what they won.
Irene Ryan Acting Competition
7 pairs in the preliminary round (total of 296 pairs from across region); 2 pairs in the semi-finals (64 of original 296), 1 pair in the final round (16 out of 64 semi-finalists)
Stage Crew Showdown
4 students to a team; teams compete in activities such as setting/striking a set, knot tying, costume quick-changes, and hanging lights and curtains. Out of the original 12 chosen from across the region, SAU was one of four to make it to the final round.
Stage Management Fellowship
SAU student Tyler Reinert participated in this experiential learning competition, for which he was awarded the most challenging and highest-profile activities of the week to address.
Mainstage
SAU brought their award-winning production of "Oedipus Rex" to the festival. The whole SAU community was involved in restaging two productions to oversold audiences.
