Home at the Dome

Although it looks quite different from a typical Ambrose structure, the university's latest facility acquisition has already become home to athletes and students alike.

The former Orthopaedic Specialists Sports Complex (commonly known as the Brady Street Bubble), was purchased by St. Ambrose last March. A Name the Bubble contest on campus resulted in its new designation as The Ambrose Dome.

The 67,000 sq. ft. air-supported facility is providing additional indoor practice and recreation space. Teams using the dome for practices or workouts include softball, baseball, football, women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, track and field, and golf. Softball tournaments are scheduled for February and March, and the dome can accommodate field events such as pole vault, high jump and long jump. The dome will also be used for intramural and club sports.

Improvements to the dome have included adding 210 tons of rubber to recondition the turf, installing two new batting cages, painting and landscaping.

"This acquisition helps consolidate some team practices and matches, which have historically taken place at 11 different sites throughout the Quad Cities," said Mike Poster, vice president for finance. "The dome is a great asset to our student-athletes and teams and our students in general. It's an impressive facility."
