Hanenberger Named 2011 Michael Kennedy Scholar

05/03/2011

The SAU Theatre Department is proud to announce the 7th Michael Kennedy Scholar, Jacob Hanenberger '15. The recipient of this award must be declared a theatre major and have a strong dedication to work ethic and humor.

"I am very blessed to receive this award," Hanenberger says. "I want to thank my parents and family for all of the wonderful support and encouragement they have given me over the years; both my high school play director Mr. Rippenkroeger and my high school English teacher Mr. Wilkerson for their guidance and knowledge; and of course my girlfriend Celissia, for all of her support."

Hanenberger has been involved in theatre since 2005. He says he wanted to study theatre at St. Ambrose because he was impressed with the quality of the program for a small school. He finds that at Ambrose he can make the most out of his education and get one-on-one help from professors. He doesn't know which path his life will take him, but he will be studying fine arts in addition to theatre.

Past shows Jacob has been involved in include Adam's Eve (Adam Moss), The Big Five-Oh (Eric Thomas), Stardust (Jerry Flanagan), Hit and Misdemeanor (Howard Hughes), Up the Down Staircase (Robert Rippenkroeger) and Lockers (Phil). Jacob has also been in the film The Party Record (Anthony). The Party Record was Jacob's first film and it was an exciting experience for him. "It was a short film, but the three days it took to shoot were some of the most exciting memories of my life," Hanenberger says.

"My dream role in a show is a character that I can completely become. It would be amazing to perform in New York or Los Angeles, but I would really like to perform in the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota because I am originally from the Twin Cities area."

Past Michael Kennedy Scholars include Seth Kaltwasser (2005),Catie Osborn (2006), Ryan Westwood (2007), Justine Petesch (2008), Stephanie Seward (2009), and Aaron Randolph III '12 (2010).

The St. Ambrose Theatre Department congratulates Jacob on this award-we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!
