Theatre professor Kris Eitrheim will be taking this Fall 2011 semester off for a well-deserved sabbatical! Eitrheim, who is usually the Technical Director for SAU productions–as well as taking his turn as lighting designer, scenic designer and more–is taking time to educate himself on new Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) programs for new works. Further education will help him to teach classes at SAU on design and on those programs.
During this sabbatical, Eitrheim will also be scenic designing for Drake University's production of A Little Night Music, as well as visiting several theatres including the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn., and the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Eitrheim will also be visiting the Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago to look at their tech set-up–because lighting control methods are constantly being updated–and this theatre's set-up is very up-to-date.
Eitrheim said he feels very excited, thrilled, and fortunate to have this opportunity! While he will certainly miss his SAU family, Eitrheim says he already enjoys being away from the shop, and cannot wait to work on updating his knowledge.
"I know my department will carry on in elegant style," says Eitrheim.
