After years of being directed, some of the SAU Theatre students are sitting in the Director's chair for a change.
The students in Dr. Corinne Johnson's Directing Class (THTR 312) just picked and cast for the first time their own one-act shows. The class, which is unusually large this semester (7 students!), held auditions Oct. 16 in the Galvin Studio Theatre. Many of the plays chosen were written by a vast variety of playwrights from Christopher Durang to David Mamet.
Directors include: Morgan Griffin '12, Cody Tucker '12, Molly Conrad '14, Ashlee Estabrook '14, Sidney Junk '14, Amanda Kochanny '13, and Katie Harrington '12.
"I took the class because I wanted to become a better actor and be better versed in all aspects of theatre," says Kochanny. "I'm excited to work with my peers in a way other than being onstage with them. I'm nervous for the last week of production. Costumes, lights, sound–it's going to be a lot of work!"
These plays will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and 14 in the Galvin Studio Theatre and will serve as the class' final grade. Admission is free and no tickets are required.
Good luck to all the directors and all are welcomed to come and support the students and their actors.
