Spending time with your family is priceless, but sometimes it's hard to find something new and different to do. With that in mind, St. Ambrose has two upcoming family-friendly activities that are sure to entertain kids of all ages.
First, the Galvin Fine Arts Center presents two performances of the children's musical "Dakota Jones and the Search for Atlantis" on Saturday Dec. 3 and Sunday Dec. 4. Both shows begin at 3 p.m. Enjoy this seaworthy adventure as Dakota Jones learns the value of true friendship while searching for the lost island of Atlantis. Along the way she meets Dean Marlin, Squiddy Davis, Jr., Fish Face and many others. This exotic tale of adventure takes our heroine to places she never thought she could go while sharing an appreciation for celebrating the diversity in all of us.
Next, it's time to say Happy New Year - China! On Jan. 28 from 3-8 p.m. at the Rogalski Center, adults, families and children are invited to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with food, fun, learning and fireworks. The cost is $10 for adults ($15 at the door); $5 for children ages 3-12 ($8 at the door); and $5 for students with a SAU ID card. The event will start with a children's program organized by the SAU Education Department. From 3-5 p.m., childrens activities will include a tea party, acupuncture, calligraphy, martial arts, noodle-making and a Chinese instrument demonstration.
There will be a traditional Chinese meal including dumplings and roast pig (included in ticket price) from 5-6 p.m. and a formal program including traditional rituals for celebrating the Chinese New Year from 6-7 p.m.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks show at 7 p.m. For advance tickets or more information, contact Susan Leuthauser at 563/332-1756.
