The St. Ambrose Mock Trial Team's 4-4 finish earned it a top third finish in the 25th Annual Loras College National Invitational Tournament. The team drew an unusually strong group of opponents from the 70 team field. In the first round, St. Ambrose tied the University of Illinois 1-1; in round two bested Bradley University 2-0; in round three tied the University of Kansas 1-1, before losing to the tournament's 8th place team, the University of South Dakota 0-2.
In each round we drew the "A team" (top team) from each school. Illinois, Kansas and South Dakota are all teams with high expectations for the national championship. Loyola University (Chicago) went on to win the tournament. Our team had quite a surprise when our third round was judged by Professor Richard Calkins, who founded the national mock trial movement 26 years ago.
