Bob Jurevitz Award

A framed No. 44 St. Ambrose jersey hangs in the front hall of the Jurevitz home in Bettendorf. Another greets visitors to the St. Ambrose football locker room.

Friends and family say Bob Jurevitz was visibly moved when he was presented his framed 44 at a May benefit.

"He was humbled by everything, needless to say," former teammate Dan Brown '86 said of a massive community response on May 13 that raised more than $100,000 to help defray Jurevitz's medical expenses. "But when they presented that jersey, I think that meant so much to Bob."

St. Ambrose coach Mike Magistrelli also introduced the Bob Jurevitz Award that night, a prize that will be presented annually to a player who exemplifies Jurevitz's dedication to team, leadership and hard-nosed play.

More than a dozen Jurevitz family members presented the first award to SAU senior John Michaletti in December.
