Dr. John Barr's second term as the president of the Section on Geriatrics (SOG) came to an end in February.
In his six years as section president his leadership helped the SOG grow and become a stronger component group of the American Physical Therapy Association. Some of his accomplishments included spearheading the development, implementation and tremendous success of programs such as the Exercise and Physical Activity in Aging Conference and the Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults.
While president, the SOG's journal, Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy, and newsletter, Gerinotes, were both upgraded and continued their high quality publication record. Dr. Barr collaborated with external organizations such as the American Geriatrics Society and Gerontological Society of America to enhance recognition of physical therapists' role in practice, education and research.
As president of the SOG, Dr. Barr also helped bring recognition to St. Ambrose University. Because of Dr. Barr's ongoing service to the profession and especially the SOG, many faculty, students and graduates have heard the question, "Do you know John Barr?" when an individual hears St. Ambrose University. He has touched many people's professional and personal lives through his commitment to service.
Congratulations to Dr. Barr for all his hard work and successes as SOG president.
