One of St. Ambrose University's very own joins the "Merry Men." Tyler Reinert '12 is working with the Davenport Junior Theater as their Scenic Designer for the production of "Robin Hood."
Reinert was offered the opportunity to work with the Davenport Junior Theater after his work for the SAU theater department on the scenic design of "Dakota Jones and the Search for Atlantis" directed by Junior Theatre Artistic Director, Daniel Sheridan.
This opportunity to work in a theater outside of SAU is offering Reinert new and fresh ideas in approaching designs with a small budget and the chance to work with different individuals and in a different theatre space.
"Bouncing ideas around with a production team that is different from the normal Ambrose production team will hopefully let me see how other theaters produce shows," Reinert says.
The tasks of scenic designer include conferencing with the director and producer to create a design for the show. Designing and creating the scenes, and then tweaking and changing this idea are all part of the process.
"I go to the drawing board (figuratively and physically) and work out a floor plan and then front renderings," Reinert explains.
After finalizing the design, a more detailed rendering gets presented to the scenic painter and a working drawing to the technical director.
Actors aren't the only people involved in theater who take pleasure in their work when the curtain goes up. The most rewarding part of what Reinert does is in the satisfaction when that curtain goes up on opening night.
"Watching the show on opening night and realizing that the set in front of me came out of my head," Reinert states, "that is the most rewarding part of my job."
This is not the first show Reinert has designed, nor does he plan on it being the last. Reinert has been the scenic designer for "Dakota Jones and the Search for Atlantis," "Dark Play, or stories for Boys," "A New Brain," "All I really Need to Know I learned by Being in a Bad Play," and "Reasons to be Pretty."
Congratulations to Tyler for this opportunity!
