The new Office of Veterans Recruitment and Services at St. Ambrose University exists to ease the transition of active and veteran service members and their dependents into college.
The office can assist in applying for state and federal benefits, and the coordinator, Marine veteran Andrew Gates, serves as a liaison with the greater Quad Cities community and Rock Island Arsenal to ensure that veterans and service members are given the support they need to thrive academically at St. Ambrose. On-campus student support services include the Counseling Center and Student Disabilities Services, which can provide accommodations for individuals with physical or learning disabilities.
The Yellow Ribbon program, an ongoing partnership between St. Ambrose and the Department of Veterans Affairs, allows qualifying student veterans and their dependents to attend SAU for little or no cost. St. Ambrose has a flexible disenrollment policy for activated service members, and limited tuition deferment is offered for students using VA funding to pay for college.
