An adjunct instructor in the St. Ambrose Music Department was recently honored by the Iowa Music Teachers Association. Judy Hyland was chosen as the 2012 IMTA Certified Teacher of the Year, recognized for her contributions to the profession and the IMTA.
"Judy's courageous spirit and initiative has provided opportunities for hundreds of students in the Quad Cities area and teachers like me from around the nation," said Lucinda Lear, IMTA Certification Chair.
Hyland earned a bachelor's degree in piano from St. Ambrose and her master's degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She founded the Quad-City Music Teachers Association in 1989, serving as its first president from 1989-1991. Hyland has served as vice president of the Iowa Federation of Music Clubs, IMTA convention co-chair, and adjudicator for state and local auditions and festivals. Hyland is a founding member of the Digital Dames, a five-member keyboard ensemble that performs in venues across the state and nation.
