Name: Jillian Stumpf

Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa

Major: Early Childhood Education

What country or countries did you study abroad in? Ecuador

How long were you there? One semester

Why did you choose to study in that location? Because it was not a popular destination and I was able to take Spanish and education classes there.

What is your favorite memory? My favorite memory is Carnaval! There they throw water at everyone. I went to my family's country home and everyone was throwing buckets of water at each other and spray foam. It was hilarious seeing everyone participating!

How did your experience abroad impact you as a person? It made me more confident in myself and more involved in the community. I don't want to sit and watch tv every day; now I want to go do something.

Do you have any advice to other students about studying abroad? Have fun! If you allow yourself, you will meet so many new people and be able to say you have friends all over the country. When we went to the Galapagos, we met people from France, and in Cuenca we met a lot of people from all over the world. I learned to talk to everyone! Don't be afraid to make a mistake because I made many language mistakes and my family just laughed with me.
