St. Ambrose Soccer Goes Global

October 2012

One third of the St. Ambrose University men's soccer roster hails from overseas. Coach Jon Mannall's roster includes players from Australia, Botswana, England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Scotland.

"It has always been my ambition to play at the highest level that I can achieve," Fighting Bees sophomore David Gould, of Erskine, Scotland, told the Paisley Daily Express, a newspaper near his hometown. "However, as I have matured I realize the importance of gaining a college degree for my future after football. I believe that studying and playing at a U.S. college is the best way for me to achieve these two goals."

Gould also shared a weather report, although he could be in a for a bit of a revelation as winter approaches.  "In Iowa, it is seriously hot" he said, "which takes a bit of getting used to for guys coming over from rain-soaked Scotland."

More importantly, he noted,  "Classes over here are interesting, and by immersing yourself in the American way of living, it all makes you want to go to classes, stay positive and get good grades."

Mannall's Bees are 9-4-1, 2-2-1 in the Midwest Conference after seeing a nine-game unbeaten streak end last week.
