The winner of the competition at the festival receives a $500 scholarship and continues on to compete for the scholarship at the Kennedy Center. The winner of this competition in Washington D.C. wins a $3,000 scholarship.
Students get nominated during one of each of the shows on the main stage of Allaert Auditorium by an adjudicator.
Tony Stratton '12
Stratton was nominated for his role in "The Plagiarists." Stratton selected Morgan Griffin '12 as his scene partner. They will be performing a scene from "Betrayal" by Harold Pinter and a comic selection from "Hard Candy" by Jonathan Rand. Stratton is still searching for the perfect monologue. This is not the first time this duo has been a team for the Irene Ryan competition, and it is certain that they will pull out all the stops this year.
Stephanie Seward '13
Current senior Seward was nominated for her role as Titania in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Seward will be partnered with Cody Johnson '13. They have not yet come to a final decision on scenes, but they will decide soon. Seward, a veteran to the competition, is planning on performing "I know the truth" from Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida."
Kelsey Francis '13
First year senior transfer student Francis was nominated for her role as Tourvel in "Les Liasions Dangereuses." Francis still is actively searching for the perfect scenes and partner. She is excited about the competition and will give word as soon as she makes her selections.
Cami Sackett '14
Sackett was nominated for her role of Nell in Samuel Beckett's play "End Game" at Kirkwood Community College. She is also still searching for the ultimate package. Sackett has been tirelessly reading plays and has several scenes in mind, but has not made her final decision yet.
Molly Conrad '14
Conrad was nominated for her role of Helena in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Conrad has selected Jonathan Smith '13 as her partner in the competition. They have looked at scenes from Midsummer Night's Dream, Key Exchange, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry IV, and Reasons to be Pretty but they have not chosen scenes for certain yet. Conrad's final monologue will be from the one act Cast Spell.
Shannon Rourke '15
Freshman Rourke was nominated for her portrayal of Merteuil in "Les Liasions Dangereuses." Rourke has selected Amanda Kochanny ‘13 as her scene partner. They are still looking for and selecting scenes, but Rourke did state that her final monologue will be from Shakespeare's Henry V.
Grace Allen '12
Allen was chosen for her role as Jobi in "The Plagiarists." Allen has chosen Cody Johnson '13 as her partner. They will be doing one piece from "All American Gender F*** Cabaret". Allen will give us an update as soon as she chooses the rest of her pieces.
