Students in the Director's Chair

November 2012

The student-directors of Dr. Corinne Johnson's Directing Class (THTR 312) held auditions for their one-acts on October 16. The plays the directors chose range from the absurdist style of Eugene Ionesco to a more contemporary style of Jimmy Brunelle.

This year's Directing Class is comprised of Mallory Baldwin ‘14, Austin Eiben ‘13, Jacob Hanenberger ‘13, Stacy Phipps ‘13, Tim Stompanato '13, and Chris Zavacki ‘13

"I love my one-act, The Stronger, because it shows the two different spectrums of acting: the verbal and the physical. It was hard to choose at auditions, but the two actresses I've cast will enhance my one-act to the fullest," Zavacki said.

"After taking the class," Baldwin said, "I've found directing to be stressful, but fun. It's been an awesome project and I'm sure it'll help me out in the long run. It's fun and exciting, even though it comes with the stress of a grade and finding free time outside of class."

The one-acts, which are free and open to all, will be performed December 10 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the Galvin Studio Theatre and will be the students' final grade.

Be sure to take a reprieve from final exams by supporting your fellow students as they mount these productions.
