Honoring Saint Ambrose and Ambrosians

December 2012

Sunday, Dec. 2, was a day to honor the university's patron saint—as well as those who embody the university mission of enriching lives.

The celebration began with a public lecture by Monsignor Cesare Pasini, prefect of the Biblioteca Aposatolica Vaticana in Rome, and one of the world's foremost scholars on Saint Ambrose of Milan. "Progressing with Freedom Toward Humility: Images and Thoughts of Ambrose of Milan" took place in the Rogalski Center Ballroom, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Msgr. Pasini concelebrated the annual Feast of Saint Ambrose Mass later that day in Christ the King Chapel. St. Ambrose Professor of Theology Rev. Robert Grant, who also serves as director of the university's Academy for the Study of Saint Ambrose of Milan, gave the homily. Watch it now.

During the Mass, the McMullen Awards, named in honor of St. Ambrose University founder Bishop John McMullen, was presented to individuals who embody the university's mission of enriching the lives of others. Recipients included longtime supporters of Catholic education Patricia and the late John Bush, who was honored posthumously, and Richard Geiger, St. Ambrose Professor Emeritus.
