Life-long learning is very much at the core of a liberal arts education and proud St. Ambrose graduate and adjunct instructor, Dr. Rick Reed '99, '03 MOL, proudly exemplifies this concept.
Dr. Reed considers himself very fortunate to be a member of the first graduating class of the ACCEL program in 1999. Just a few years later, in 2003, he also became a member of the first graduating class of the St. Ambrose University Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) program.
A strong advocate of education, Dr. Reed says, "I know that the ACCEL program changed my life for the better and I truly believe that the ACCEL program can do the same for all who apply." He feels his education at St. Ambrose helped him grow as an individual and fostered his desire to help others find success. "As an instructor, my greatest joy has been to witness others realize their potential through earning their degree at St. Ambrose University."
While enrolled at St. Ambrose, Dr. Reed worked full time as CEO/President of Adesign, Inc., a 26-year-old Quad Cities advertising and marketing firm. In the early days of Adesign, Inc., he worked toward completing his bachelor's degree by attending traditional classes on the main campus whenever his schedule allowed. Then, in 1995, St. Ambrose started an accelerated bachelor's degree program - ACCEL. Quickly realizing the potential to earn his degree on a fast track, Dr. Reed took advantage of this opportunity and graduated with a Bachelor of Elected Studies (BES) degree in Business, Marketing, and Art in 1999.
As luck would have it, St. Ambrose started a Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) degree program in 2001. Not only was Dr. Reed the first applicant of the MOL program, he was also among the program's first graduates in 2003.
Upon graduation, he entered an instructional program for future instructors at St. Ambrose University. In 2004, after an assessment process and attending several workshops and seminars for over a year, he qualified to teach all subjects in the undergraduate and graduate level programs. Inspired by the many students pursuing their dreams at St. Ambrose University, Dr. Reed recently earned his Doctorate of Education in Ethical Leadership.
A tireless advocate of education, Dr. Reed feels blessed to be able to influence others through his teaching. Fortunately for current ACCEL students, his continued contributions are helping change the lives of others by helping them obtain their goal of higher education.
