Study Abroad Spotlight: Meet Mary Turner

February 2013

Name: Mary Emily Turner
Hometown: Bourbonnais, Ill.
Major: Psychology
Minor: Irish Studies
What country or countries did you study abroad in? Greece
How long were you there? 3 weeks
Why did you choose to study in this location? I wanted to go to a country that not many have traveled to and one that had a long and rich history. Greece seemed like the perfect fit.
What is your favorite memory? My favorite memory is climbing to the top of the monasteries in Meteora. I felt like I was on top of the world.
How did your experience abroad impact you as a person? I had never been abroad before so being a part of another culture was a totally new experience. I am now more understanding of other cultures, and it has made me want to travel more!
What advice would you give to other students thinking about studying abroad? Just go for it and apply, you will not regret it! PACK LIGHT! You don't need as much as you think. Just go out and try everything you can no matter how tired you are. It goes by fast so just enjoy the experience!
