The SAU men's and women's track and field squads will look to build on their recent sweep of the Midwest Collegiate Conference meets at this weekend's NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.

• The weekend marks the end of the road for two of the SAU's most accomplished athletes. Leading the Bees contingent to Indiana Wesleyan University for the meet which runs Thursday-Sunday are five-time All-American John Darmody and two-time All-American Mandy Streu. Darmody is wrapping up his most successful year to date as he was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Athlete of the Year for Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track. He will be racing the 800 and 1,500 meter runs.
• Streu, one of just a handful of SAU student-athletes to ever earn two All-American titles, will also be competing in two events in her final meet. The recent grad will look to add to her hardware haul, competing in the shot put and the hammer throw.
• Wes Vaden will be making his first appearance at NAIA Outdoor Nationals after a 13th place finish in the shot put at this year's NAIA Indoor Nationals. Also competing for the Bees will be Ryan Buchanan and Morgan Meseke. Both Buchanan and Meseke will be racing in the Marathon Saturday morning.
• Coach Dan Tomlin was named men's and women's coach of the year as the Bees dominated the MCC meet earlier this month.

In other sports:

• Women's bowler Maggie Suchoski, women's tennis player Heather Matejka, men's volleyball player Dan Dierking and men's golfer Luke Staudt were named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large teams this month. The four represent District 5 in the College Division, which includes NAIA and two-year schools from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and Wisconsin. Read about each scholar/athlete.
• The women's softball squad tied a school record with 40 wins but needed one victory more to reach the national tournament. The SAU women saw their season end with a pair of one-run losses to Grand View in the championship round of the MCC tourney. The Queen Bees won the regular season league crown and coach Ron Ferrill was named Coach of ther Year. Eight players were named to the all-league squad - with pitcher Kathryn Brown, centerfielder Sarah Frerichs, catcher Niki Green, utility player Stephanie Hebison, first baseman Kristen Paulson and third baseman Kaitlyn Reiser each earning spots on the first team. Outfielder/first baseman Samantha Saladino and third baseman/outfielder Mackenzie Snowbarger received all-MCC honorable mention. This week, Sarah Frerichs was named a Capital One Academic All-America first team outfielder and Niki Green was named the third-team catcher.
• Zach Rohlf, Matt Rosenberger and Alex Timmerman were named first-team All-Midwest Collegiate Conference baseball players, Adonis Brown and Jake Fields received all-conference honorable mention, and Kale Kauppi earned a conference Gold Glove. The Bees ended a 15-26 season in the second round of the MCC tournament.
• Men's golfer Andrew Canfield earned all-MCC honorable mention honors.
