Football Coach Heard Call to Priesthood Here

June 2013

Ross Parker '07 MOL thought he had launched the career of his dreams when he came to St. Ambrose as assistant football and track coach in 2005.

"I had the exact job I wanted," he said recently. "I felt like I had worked really hard toward getting where I wanted to be and having my life set up."

Then, he heard a different calling. Parker, a native of Indianola, Iowa, decided to pursue a life in the Catholic Church while earning his graduate degree here. He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Des Moines on June 7.

Rev. Charles Adam, campus chaplain at St. Ambrose, said he often talked with Parker about his faith and his future.

"Ross is just a great guy," Fr. Adam said. "He used to come to Mass here all the time and was real involved. We talked about it a lot and I am really very proud of him."
