There was no shortage of interest in the Alumni Invasion Weekend originally scheduled for July 26-28, 2013.
What was missing was time.
The St. Ambrose Alumni Association and the Alumni Office soon will select a weekend in the summer of 2014 when alumni can gather with friends and former classmates on campus, staying in a residence hall to reconnect with their college roots.
Wendy Pondell, assistant director of alumni relations, said a number of alumni responded favorably to the idea, but, without sufficient lead time, could not make it part of their summer agenda.
"What we found is that people didn't have enough time to coordinate with friends, take time off work and coordinate schedules," Pondell said.
The Alumni Association and the Alumni Office are working now with Residence Life and other campus groups to select a date they can begin publicizing at Homecoming weekend Sept. 27-29.
Pondell said the planners could look toward a June or August date, so that more campus amenities can be made available. Specifically, she said a number of alumni want the opportunity to again attend mass in Christ the King Chapel, which is not open during the month of July.
She said a group of 12 alumni already are making plans to be part of the invasion next summer.
