Lawrence Feeney's Ambrose Hall

Ambrose Hall, by Lawrence Feeney '59

September 2013

Lawrence Feeney '59 studied art under Fr. Edward Catich, founder of the SAU Art Department.

In the early 1960s, Bill Wundrum asked Feeney to complete a watercolor for the Sunday edition of the Davenport Democrat & Leader (which later became the Quad-City Times).

"I sat on the front of campus under those old oaks and came around to this image," Feeney said. "I included several of the priests walking, as so many of them did, on one of the sites where they often would." In 2013, Feeney sent the remaining copies of the print to the Alumni Office with a note that said, "Use them in any way...they are a little window of the front campus over 50 years ago. It was a charming place and time."

The Alumni Office is sharing copies of this colorful print of our iconic building with volunteers assisting with Homecoming activities this year.
