Prior to each commencement, St. Ambrose's graduating military veterans and service members are awarded a military-style medal in recognition of their military service and degree attainment. Suspended from a red, white and blue drape, and affixed to the left breast of their gowns, these medals are worn during the commencement ceremony as a sign of service to country and recognition of educational achievement.
