The SAU Marketing Club has made quite a name for itself in its short existence. Spearheaded by seniors Brendan Besetzney, Dave Farley, Brendan Sugrue, and Lawrence Hammer '13, the club has grown to more than 30 members since its inception in Fall 2012. The majority of the members have also joined the marketing profession's premier organization, the American Marketing Association.
The Club has the largest membership of all universities in the state of Iowa and was recently recognized as Chapter of the Year by the American Marketing Association. Some student organizations may have a larger membership, but few can boast the level of commitment and activity of the SAU Marketing Club over the past 12 months. The club meets most Thursday nights at 9 p.m. in the Rogalski Center.
In November 2013, 29 members ventured to Minneapolis for an overnight trip which included corporate visits to advertising agencies Space 150 and BBDO Needham, BestBuy.com, and the Mall of America. This trip followed a very successful Spring 2012 trip to Chicago, where club members visited the Chicago Bears, Nielsen Media Research, and Red Frog Events (event planning company). The club is in the process of planning corporate visits to St. Louis in Spring 2014.
In the past year the SAU Marketing Club has exposed students to the following organizations through volunteerism, marketing projects, case competitions and other events: Northwestern Mutual, Hershey's, Spindustry Digital, Quad City River Bandits, Space 150, Morris & Company, Manor Chocolates, Mall of America, Niabi Zoo, Red Frog Events, Enterprise Car Rental, Deere & Company, Mandel Design, Chicago Bears, Loras College, BBDO Needham, American Marketing Association - Iowa Chapter, Best Buy, St. Ambrose University MBA Program, Nielsen Media Research, the Rock Island Arsenal, and others. One key to successful student organizations is the ability to effectively transition to a new leadership team. The SAU Marketing Club already is aware of this potential challenge, having identified its successors: Juniors Jordan Kremer, Ross Kozac, Jessica Frye, and Nick Gentzler, who are ready to take over the reins at the beginning of the second semester.
The future is looking bright for the marketing students at St. Ambrose University!
