"Proof will not be a show to miss."
Senior Molly Conrad
This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play will be produced at St. Ambrose University for the first time this March. Rehearsals began in mid-February after casting decisions.
Cast:
Robert – First Year Sam Jones
Catherine – Sophomore Becca Brazel
Hal – Sophomore Conor Strandquist
Claire – First Year Madison Auge
"Working with the cast and crew of Proof has been such an amazing experience," Auge said. "All of the characters are so richly developed, and the cast portrays them so beautifully."
Proof is a drama written by David Auburn. The plot is revolved around the life of Catherine, a young woman who is suffering her father's loss, potential mental illness, and trust issues. She is blessed with a gift of mathematical genius, and a young man (Hal) who is determined to pursue her.
"Becca plays Catherine authentically, bringing parts of herself into her character," Conrad said. "This makes for a genuine, honest, and at times, hilariously dry leading role."
Catherine has flashbacks of her father Robert, played by Sam Jones. This character usually is played by an older actor since Robert is in his 50s. Jones's hair, make-up, and outfit will be manipulated by costume designer Amelia Fischer ('16) to age the freshman actor. Come see the old man and his fellow actors put on Auburn's piece.
Proof will be showing in the studio theatre, located in the lower level of Galvin Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $6 general admission at the door, including students. The show runs March 20-21 at 7:30 p.m., and March 22 at 3 p.m.
