03/19/2014

Dr. Hunhui Oh recently joined the School of Social Work as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Oh was born in South Korea and completed his undergraduate degree in business at Korea University. He started his professional career as a businessman, but made the transition into social work when his parents started their own nursing home. While assisting his parents at their nursing home, Dr. Oh recognized the fulfillment he got while helping others during some of their most vulnerable times.

Dr. Oh moved to the United States and earned his MSW from Case Western Reserve University in 2006, along with a certificate in Gerontology. In 2013, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

With several notable publications and manuscripts, he has received national recognition for an article currently under review in the Aging and Society journal: "Social Support Network Changes and Their Roles in Adaptation and Mental Health Among Korean Elderly Immigrants." His current research interest is on wisdom, aging and the life course, social support and caregiving and end-of-life care, with expertise on research methods, such as mixed methods and social network analysis.

Dr. Oh enjoys being a faculty member and teaching students as well as learning from them. Dr. Oh's life motto is "You cannot respect what you do not inspect."

Outside of the classroom you will likely find him spending time with his wife and son, reading a good book, playing baseball, or watching sports.
